The Thinker's WorkshopTM

The Thinker's Workshop teaches the analytic structuring techniques presented in Morgan Jones's book, The Thinker's Toolkit. The application of these techniques is guaranteed to improve the decision-making and problem solving skills of individuals as well as teams.

Participants who attend the Thinker's Workshop:

  • Discover common impediments to effective decision making and problem solving
  • Practice specific techniques to overcome these impediments
  • Gain a new perspective on the decision making and problem solving process

Because the workshop is tailored to customers' needs, its content and length (from 1 to 3 days) depend upon the participants' special requirements. Three factors guide the design of a workshop:

  • The number of structuring techniques to be taught
  • The skill level desired
  • The kinds of decisions and problems used to illustrate and practice the techniques.

To increase the workshop's relevance and the students' retention, we incorporate examples and exercises that directly parallel the kinds of decisions and problems the students deal with routinely. We identify these problems beforehand through personal interviews with managers and employees. As a result of customizing our workshops for different organizations, we have developed, tested, and continue to add to an inventory of over 200 different exercises, each tailored to a type of decision or problem a specific audience encounters on the job. This approach makes it easier to demonstrate to the students how the techniques can be applied to their work.

Each participant is furnished, for retention:

  • A copy of the book, "The Thinker's Toolkit"
  • A 31-page pocket-size "Desktop Guide to Better Decisions"
  • A customized coursebook designed for the specific workshop audience

The power and impact of the workshop result in large part from our careful analysis and skillful tailoring of these examples and exercises and the students' repeated practice of the analytic techniques under the close supervision of the instructors.

In addition to classroom instruction, we can arrange to have our trainers visit your organization and work one-on-one with your decision makers. We will help individuals and groups apply to live problems the analytic structuring techniques described in Morgan Jones’s book, “The Thinker’s Toolkit”. This service ranges from monitoring and coaching to taking an active role in applying the techniques in the workplace.

Analytic Prowess can also train “analytic SWAT teams” within an organization. In this capacity, each team is trained by Analytic Prowess to the point of mastering the techniques. The team is then deployed by management to help solve problems and make decisions anywhere in the organization.”
